Water Conservation
Let’s face it. We live in the desert. The last thing we think of when we see a water feature is that it may actually be helping to conserve water. That actually is the case if you do it right! Here are some tips to being water wise.
- Create a pondless water feature using your gray water. Everyone has it now it is time to put it to use! What is gray water you ask? Gray water is any wash water used in the home with the exception of toilet water. This water can be routed to your yard and pumped through your water feature. Re-claimed water can be used to water your entire landscape.
- Create shade over your water feature. Planting trees around your water feature can significantly cool down the water temperature thus slowing down evaporation not to mention the esthetics of it.
- Use indigenous, draught tolerant plants around your water feature. There is a vast assortment to choose from.
- Plant a rock. Using rock and gravel around your water feature is both pleasing to the eye and eco friendly.
If you follow these simple tips, your water feature will actually use less water than if that land was covered with the average grassy lawn.
